The above image is Franz Ferdinand in a supermarket (obviously) but Alex and Paul sat down recently to pick out acts at the musical supermarket that is Field Day. The band have been spotted at Field Day in previous years, as punters, and even though they return to headline this year they have their eyes firmly on the schedules too. As you can see from the two lists both Alex and Paul keep a close eye on what’s going on just below the surface of UK and US music scenes. Here are their top tips…

Julia Holter
I love the mood of her music. I’ve never seen her live, so this is a pretty good opportunity to check her out.
Django Django
They made my favourite record of the year. Really great live band too. Can’t wait.
Metronomy
First time I saw them was at King Tut’s in Glasgow, playing to about 15 people. Last time I saw them was at a sold out Albert Hall. I’ve loved the journey between those two points. Great band.
Citizens
Probably the best produced album of 2012**, but even better live.

How come it took so long? Yes, looking forward to this.
Liars
I don’t think there’s anyone else as intense as these guys on the bill.

I first heard him when he did that history of punk rock. Totally won me over. I like this guy.

I enjoyed the LP. Want to hear it live.

Great songs, and I’ve never seen them live, but would love to.
Laurel Halo
When I go to any festival I love to go through the line up and find someone whose music I don’t know, then check them out. I had a listen to this on sound cloud and liked it, so I’ll pop down and check it out. I don’t know who makes it – whether it’s a band or a solo project, but I liked what I heard. There has to be some sort of surprise.
